Distinguish Between Mitosis VS Meiosis

The Difference between mitosis vs meiosis is in mitosis the no. of chromosome is same i.e (46) and in meiosis the no. of chromosome is half i.e (23) that's why mitosis is also called equational division and meiosis is also called reductional division.

Mitosis

The no.of chromosome is same as in daughter cell as in parental cell so it is called equational division i.e 46 chromosome in daughter cell and as well as in parental cell.

Mitosis completed in 4 phases.
  1. Prophase
  2. Metaphase
  3. Anaphase
  4. Telophase

Prophase

Prophase is marked by the initiation of condensation of chromosomal material to form compact mitotic chromosome

Metaphase

  • Spindle fibre attach to kinetochores of chromosome.

  • Chromosome are moved to spindle equator and get aligned along metaphase plate through spindle fibre to both poles.

Anaphase

  • Centromere split and chromatids sperate 
  • Chromatid move to opposite pole.

Telophase

  • Chromosome cluster at opposite spindle 
  • Nuclear envelope assembles around the chromosome
  • Nucleolus, Golgi complex reform

Meiosis 

The no. of chromosome is half in daughter cell i.e 23 chromosome in daughter cell & 46 in parental cell.

Meiosis complete in 2 phase 
  1. Meiosis 1
  2. Meiosis 2

Meiosis 1

  1. Prophase
    • Leptotene 
    • Zygotene
    • Pachytene
    • Diplotene
    • Diakinesis
          1. Metaphase

          1. Anaphase

          1. Telophase

          Leptotene

          Condensation of chromatin material and chromosome are formed 

          Zygotene

          Chromosome start paring together called synapsis. synapsis is accomplished but the formation of complex structure called Synaptomial complex.
          In zygotene bivalent structure are formed

          Pachytene

          Crossing over is take place wit the help of an enzyme Recombinase i.e transfer of genetic material.

          Diplotene

          Bivalent structure is separate except the X Shaped structure called chiasmata.

          Diakinesis

          • Termination of chiasmata
          • Chromosome are fully condensed

          Metaphase

          Bivalent chromosome aligned on equatorial plate

          Anaphase 

          Homologous chromosome separate while sister chromatid remains associated at their centromere

          Telophase

          The nucleolus and nuclear membrane and reappear cytokinesis is followed and two separate cell is formed with each of 23 chromosome.
